Our practice

If a tooth is badly decayed, damaged, or infected, root canal treatment can save it from extraction. The procedure removes the infected tissue inside the tooth and restores it so it can function normally again.

At our practice, we provide gentle, effective root canal treatment for patients across Rossett, Chester, and Wrexham. Using modern techniques and local anaesthetic, the procedure is comfortable, safe, and helps preserve your natural smile. Call us or book online to find out more.

What is root canal treatment?

Each tooth has a central area called the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. The pulp extends from the top of the tooth (the crown) down to the roots. When this tissue becomes infected or inflamed, it can cause pain, swelling, or sensitivity – and without treatment, may lead to tooth loss.

Root canal treatment involves carefully removing the infected pulp, cleaning the inside of the tooth, and sealing it to prevent further infection.

What causes pulp infection or inflammation?

Common causes include:

  • Deep decay reaching the nerve
  • A cracked or broken tooth from trauma
  • A large filling close to the nerve
  • Excessive tooth wear exposing the pulp
  • Severe gum disease spreading to the root

Sometimes, there are no symptoms at all – which is why regular dental check-ups are essential.

Signs you might need root canal treatment

  • Persistent pain or throbbing in a tooth
  • Prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold
  • Swelling or tenderness in the gums
  • Tooth discolouration
  • A bad taste or odour in the mouth

If infection is left untreated, it can cause an abscess, pain, and bone loss around the tooth.

How is root canal treatment carried out?

  • Preparation: The tooth is numbed with local anaesthetic for a pain-free procedure.
  • Access: A small opening is made in the tooth to reach the infected pulp.
  • Cleaning: The root canals are cleaned and shaped using fine instruments and antibacterial solutions.
  • Sealing: The canals are sealed with a special rubber material called gutta-percha to prevent reinfection.
  • Restoration: The tooth is restored with a filling or crown to protect it and restore full function.

Treatment may take one or more visits depending on the complexity of the tooth. X-rays are taken throughout to ensure accuracy and thorough cleaning.

With the right care, root canal–treated teeth can last as long as natural ones.
